ASR Doug's Beach

Posted on 2009.07.06 by Matt Harvey.

It's great to be in the Gorge again for what time I can. The Hatch was not going to happen today, but Doug's Beach did. I was wound to OPd on 3.5 and 74L. It wasn't much for freestyle, but I am learning to jump. Quite a few guys were doing those crazy loops that go the other way, but I have not got them figured out yet. I think maybe Asma an Sofy left as I was arriving. I saw the van but did not see them.

It was only reading 27, but Eric said he had to pedal hard in the lowest gear to go downhill against the wind. Right now I'm winding down at Tucker Park. We've got plenty of beer, the dog is quiet, and Eric is not hating it as much as expected. I may or may not push loop before I head back or maybe not even this season, but in any case I'm full over the top with gratitude.

Good to hear everyone's having an epic time up there. Yet - "Warum in die Ferne schweifen wenn das Gute liegt so nah?"
The team has been keeping up the good teamwork and showing up at the best Bay Area spots daily - although you guys up at the Gorge are sorely missed - we did have some near-epic times here.
What's up with posting some more updates and pictures of Dougs, the Hatch etc...?
Keep us posted!

Yes. It was us there. I actually opted to go back to the Hatch, since people bigger than me were OP on 2.7, and it looked like it was blowing 50+. Matt, our phones are screwed up, e-mails work better.

The hatch was gusty. I managed on 4.0 and 90l. I looove this spot for freestyle, but I am definitely waiting for the winds to get more steady. Yesterday was awesome to sail with all the pros. People kick ass in here. We are novices next to them.

More to come.....Hopefully I stay in one piece with all this wind.
