Ditching the coast

On Saturday I felt up for the trip down to Waddell on Whit's encouragement, but Sunday morning the forecast didn't look so great. Apparently a few others agreed with me, as we had Damis, Sofy, Isa, Juan, Enrique, and Christian all at Candlestick for 22 average, gusting a bit over 30. The small sails were definitely out.

For moves, it was a great day for me, with my first witnessed Spock on port and (somehow) two shove-its. That all happened before most of the crew showed up; by that time I was tired. Sofy was ripping as usual, even if his sail size was small enough for the conditions.

For injuries, I know that Damis got a mast in the shoulder (better than in the face) and that Sofy got a boom in the face or at least a close call. I got the one to keep me off the water: stepping barefoot on a rock at the wrong angle and taking off some skin on the sole of my foot. This was before the session, but I sailed on it because I couldn't walk away from that kind of wind. Candlestick needs sandals. How stupid of me.

Limping around most of the day, I didn't really care. Looking back on how much fun Sunday was dulls the pain. I hope I can get back on the water soon, but I don't want to spend most of the season with a gaping hole (or whatever else you like to call it).

Indeed a great day! I officially sanction Matt's testimony as true (I saw up close clean Spock on port). It was a good day for me too; I finally learned the boom-to-boom switch on the vulcans, which probably nobody noticed except for the big smile in the parking!
Foot injuries are highly prevalent at DaStick. Shoe covers are a must (I too learned the hard way). I'm still nursing hole on the bottom of my left foot while waterstarting close to shore there. These days I carry suturing material in the car to the decrease the frequency of hospital visits (don't advertise this service too widely pls; TeamDawg members only get this service free of charge from yours truly).
