Da Coast

Team Dawg invaded Davenport on Saturday. All in all we showed up 11 strong!! That's an incredible showing for a group that NEVER hits the coast. Saturday wasn't so good for me... was underpowered on 4.7 and 74l all day long... but it was all worth it cuz I got to see whales!! Don't know if they were humpback or gray whales, but there were two of them, and they were too close for comfort (especially for me as I was slogging... didn't want to get run over by some whales). Lot of marine life: whales, dolphins, seals...

I actually went back on Sunday, too and a had a great time. This time I was lit on 4.0 and got a few nice waves. My buddy Carlos ended up in the ER... luckily only a bad sprained foot (no broken bones). Apparently a local sailor got hurt pretty badly on Saturday. Ended up in the ER w/ a fractured pelvis. Had to float into a downwind cove and was trying to make his way back to the parking lot using his boom for a crutch. Luckily, the locals noticed he was missing and found him and carried him back to safety.

I sailed Tomales from 11:30 to 4:30. started on a 5.0, ended up on a 4.0 / 75 liter, which was too much. I only had Juan's number on my cell as I was leaving, so I left him a message to get on out there. Then I was trying to email Kev going over white's hill and thought bad idea, texting someone and you go over the edge on the way to sail. Sounds like everyone had their session, but too bad for the injuries. Keep those stitches clean and heal up Juan. Tomales was nutz! Cars parked up and down the highway. I can't wait for the next NW'erly!

FYI: If it's 18 WNW before 10:00 AM, Tomales will rip.

those are most likely gray whales you saw, on their annual migration to alaska. Humback's are rare around nor-cal. Saturday was funky, to say the list with the westerly wind direction and chunky windswell. Sunday I couldn't make it because half the family was sick at home. It was Ed Monniak who broke his pelvis. He is undergoing surgery today (4/1).

Holly crap!...Juan ended up in the ER as well after cutting his foot in Candlestick. He was water starting when he hit some submerged rock. 4 stitches. I was talking to my self...how lucky i was when i had to come out from those rocks in D-Port without cuts. Some of them were knee breaker ankle sprainer...But i definitely had a great time and wanned to go back on Sunday.

Wow...another example that shows it takes balls to practice this sport!!!

Do you know how he fractured his pelvis? Some crazy tricks or a stupid fall??? That's a pretty painful type of fracture, especially considering that you cannot walk properly. Now that I know how that walk from the downwind coves looks like, I can only imagine the guy's trek back to the launch...thank God he's alive and not lying on the beach somewhere...
